Puma’s Reality Bag

Puma’s Reality Bag

Carry On

January 2008
Forget the It bag. Today it’s all about the art bag. After Louis Vuitton’s collaborations with Takashi Murakami and Richard Prince comes Puma’s new Reality Bag, created with London’s Serpentine Gallery. The gallery’s director, Julia Peyton-Jones, and director of international projects, Hans Ulrich Obrist, chose Swiss artist John Armleder to design a silver leather sack with a chrome base. It’s filled with art-related goodies, like a sketchbook of artists’ doodles, a John Tremblay stencil and Armleder’s brain-shaped pendant. The $1,400 bag debuts this winter at galleries including Serpentine and at select Puma boutiques; the gallery’s educational and public programs will receive $100 of each sale. The bags are for “anyone who wants to own an art object,” Peyton-Jones told WWD. “And let’s face it, the appetite for handbags nowadays is endless.”
