In May Proenza Schouler unveiled the next big, well, step for the six-year-old brand: an increased focus on footwear. The label’s dynamic design duo, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough—who sold a stake in their business to Valentino last year—have dabbled in shoes previously, dreaming up looks for the runway that were sold in limited distribution. Starting for resort, however, they’ll offer a proper collection created in collaboration with Vicini SpA—the company owned by shoe designer Giuseppe Zanotti and his wife, Cinzia. The line will carry an average price tag of $685. Meanwhile, the boys are already mulling their next move. “People keep asking us, ‘Why haven’t you made a bag yet?’” Hernandez told WWD.
