The aforementioned Grand Duchess Vladimir brooch was an engagement gift; the necklace, from which the brooch can hang as a pendant, came shortly after as a wedding present. “The only word Elizabeth knows in Italian is ‘Bulgari,’” Burton once joked. Or as Triossi puts it: “If you didn’t spend money in Bulgari in the Sixties, where did you in Rome?”
