Plastic Fantastic

December 2010

Remember jellies? Think of these bow-bedecked ballerina flats as their sophisticated older sisters. A collaboration between Kartell and Moschino, the shoes are made from recyclable plastic, which, according to Kartell’s Lorenza Luti, is more comfortable than it sounds. “This material is really soft,” says Luti, whose grandfather, a chemical engineer, founded the furniture house in 1949, “and the plastic is woven so feet can breathe.” While Kartell developed the technology, the fashion factor came from Moschino creative director Rossella Jardini, who designed the slip-ons in a rainbow of colors as well as in classic black and white. “They’re a fun alternative to flip-flops,” notes Jardini. And in our opinion, chic enough to wear to dinner (kartell.com, moschino.com; $119).
