In the late-18th century, the Prince of Wales (and future King George
IV) started a trend when he and his mistress exchanged tokens—each
adorned with a painting of one
of their eyes. That gesture was the
subject of the exhibit “Look of Love” at Alabama’s Birmingham Museum of
Art earlier this year. The show,
in turn, inspired Cathy Waterman’s
latest Eye of Love collection of pendants (above, left), rings, and
cuffs. (22k gold, mammoth ivory, and cognac and white diamond
hand-painted pendant, $7,230,
and 22k gold and diamond chain,
$7,140,
by special order, Barneys New York, New York, 212.826.8900)
