Stephen Shore

A note on the photographer.

November 2009
The director of the photography program at Bard College, Stephen Shore is best known for His resonant images of everyday America, from baseball games to gas stations. For his photographs of Faro, seen on these pages, he says, “I wasn’t trying to do something that was about Bergman specifically. I was trying to take his surroundings and bring my own sensibility to it.” a seminal 1975 group show in which he participated, “New Topographics: Photographs of a Man-Altered Landscape,” has been re-created for exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where it's on view through January.
