Nina Chanel Abney, 26, made a splash with her first solo exhibition last spring at New York's Kravets\Wehby gallery. Her extra-large, riotously bright canvases, some depicting political figures in scandalous situations (think Condoleeza Rice posing seductively in a bikini) were immediately snapped up by collectors such as Donald and Mera Rubell. Here, the artist is at work in her Jersey City studio on a portrait of a decidedly less controversial subject, her friend, artist Langdon Graves.
