Malzac, a former varsity basketball player for the University of Vermont, has been an Equinox trainer since 2003. Last year she joined the gym’s exclusive Century City location (the only Equinox to which the club’s “all access” membership doesn’t apply), where she’s been working with finance types, agents and actors. “She doesn’t give you a minute’s rest, but she’s not a drill sergeant,” says a client. “I’m not the most coordinated person, but she gives me exercises I can do. She gets how my body works.” One goal of Malzac’s workouts is to take the strain out of quotidian tasks. Using kettlebells, for example, “teaches you how to use power and momentum to your advantage,” the 32-year-old says. “Suddenly, lifting a suitcase to the overhead rack on a plane is so much easier.”
