Gift Sweet (part 2)

From candles for chronic shoppers to skincare for oenophiles, W picks the season’s perfect presents.

November 2009
13| Flower Power
In Japan camellia oil is used to treat everything from brittle nails to stretch marks. Its hydrating and protective properties are now available for the hair with Shu Uemura Art of Hair Essence Absolue, a treatment that can be used before washing as a softener or after as an ultramoisturizing leave-in conditioner. Locks are left glossy and supersmooth but not weighed down. $65; shuuemuraartofhair.com

14| Jewel Tones
Talk about going straight to the source. By Terry Ombre Regard Haute Couleur eye shadow trio in Dazzling Sapphire No. 1 uses pulverized bits of the precious gem to add depth to three shimmering shadows. The magnetic padded case keeps powders intact. $75; at Barneys New York.

15| Totally Incensed
The American idea of incense has more to do with patchouli and stinky sticks than it does with sophistication. But famed French nose Francis Kurkdjian insists it can be chic. His incense papers, which are meant to be folded up and lit in an ashtray, scent a space in a matter of seconds but leave a fragrance that lasts up to five hours. $25; at Bergdorf Goodman, New York.

16| Hearth Warming
To perfume a room, try Slatkin & Co.’s chubby three-wick candle in Fireside. The toasty blend of sandalwood, cedar, leather and amber belongs alongside a pot of mulled cider. $25; at Bath & Body Works.

17| Cute as a Button
The Bumble and bumble Buttonband Spool puts a sartorial spin on hair accessories. Each elastic headband is adorned with buttonhole slits and two oversize yellow buttons for a look both adorable and neat. $15 for two; bumbleandbumble.com

18| Eau de Demi
For most women, Demi Moore inspires gym memberships. But the perfume experts at Helena Rubinstein found olfactory inspiration in the actress—specifically, they say, her “modern” romance with Ashton Kutcher—and made her the muse for the company’s latest fragrance, All You’ve Ever Wanted. The complex blend of ylang-ylang, magnolia and iris is meant to evoke Moore’s strong personality. $60; at Macy’s.

19| Spray Happy
When it comes to perfume, an extra splash or two in the morning often makes it smell stronger, not last longer. Avoid overpowering your friends with Bond No. 9 Now-And-Forever Pocket Sprays, which allow you to reapply when your fragrance starts fading. They’re available in 10 of the brand’s neighborhood-inspired eaux de parfum, from Astor Place and Wall Street to Nuits de Noho and Chinatown. $85 each; at Bond No. 9.

20| Coming Up Roses
Chantecaille has long had a love affair with the rose, using it as both an inspiration and an ingredient. This season its likeness appears on Les Pétales, a charming collection of compacts containing face powder, pearlized highlighter or rose-colored lip gloss. $36 each; chantecaille.com
