Unlike a smoky eye or a red lip, the bleached brow is out of the
mainstream, difficult to achieve, and, for some, not particularly
attractive. It is, however, impossible to ignore. Perhaps it’s the alien
otherness it telegraphs (see Die Antwoord singer Yo-Landi Vi$$er) or its
ethereal, nymphlike quality. Whatever the case, it’s definitely about
high drama. Makeup artist Lucia Pica, who bleached these brows and then
amplified the look with a steely eyeliner, says that after the 10- to
15-minute process, “the eyes become these mesmerizing things.” Indeed.
