The Stone Age

Ruby lips, emerald eyes, pearly nails—and the accessories to match. This season, there’s enough jewel-hued makeup to compete with the main floor of Van Cleef & Arpels. “These shades have a Seventies feel, but in a kind of soft, cool way,” says makeup artist Lucia Pieroni, who created the looks seen here and on the following page. While Pieroni went for high intensity, she advises nonprofessionals to use a lighter hand. “The key to wearing bold colors is to keep it simple,” she says. “A soft wash of color over the eye and a little mascara means you can go bold with the lip.” Needless to say, when it comes to the jewelry, such restraint isn’t necessary.
