NYFW Backstage Beauty Pass: Day 3
W ‘s Associate Beauty Editor,Christina Han, is backstage for at all the major shows during New York Fashion Week, sharing tips and tricks from the beauty professionals who are busy creating next season’s looks. In this installment, Han visits Derek Lam, DVF, Thakoon and Zac Posen.
Makeup artist Tom Pecheux’s take on a “studious college girl with an eccentric twist”—Lam’s inspiration for the show—translates into a burgundy smoky eye with doll-like lashes and a matte pink lip. Model Daphne Groeneveld wears a piece from Lam’s F/W 2012 collection.
Tom Pecheux holds his latest pet project for Estée Lauder, a dual-ended mascara with black (for a lifting effect) on one end and brown (for a wide-eyed appeal) on the other. Hits counters in May!
When it takes a village…Lindsey Wixon gets runway-ready mere minutes before show time.
Makeup artist James Kaliardos punches up models natural lip color with MAC’s lip pencil in Soar, a muted rosy pink.
The inspiration for Thakoon’s show: Audrey Hepburn with an eclectic flair. Translation: hair in a french twist and lips painted bright pink, courtesy of NARS lipstick in Heat Wave, with a dab of an even pinker blush, Exhibit A, on top for oomph. The black-tipped sheer French manicure lends a definite edge to the final look.
The slew of Kerastase products it took to create a look Odile Gilbert describes as ” a destroyed French twist.” The slicked forward set of bangs is in homage to Audrey Hepburn.
Hairstylist Luigi Murenu for John Frieda constructed what I like to call, “hair spears,” for his sculptural, Geisha-inspired chignons. If looks could kill…
Makeup artist Kabuki puts the finishing touches on model Coco Rocha’s lacquered looking lips with a fiery blend of MAC’s Red and Orange Lip Mixes.
