The Bold New Eye
This beauty statement is all about the thick green line
The new statement eye is simple but bold. Start with a strong brow, darken lashes just a tad, and then paint on a big, brave swath of color. It’s a look that was all over the fall runways: Pat McGrath did Tin Man silver lids at Dior, and Diane Kendal dove into deep navy at Thakoon. “Women are being more experimental with eye color,” says François Nars, the founder and creative director of Nars cosmetics, who developed Eye Paint (out next month) with that sense of drama in mind. The highly pigmented creams can be applied with a brush, finger-smudged across the lid, or even blended together. (Nars made this moody green by mixing Solomon Islands,a pool blue, with Mozambique,an intense olive.) There’s only one rule. “Makeup is about balance,” Nars says. “When the eye makes a statement, the lips should be quiet.” The nose ring, of course, is optional.
