This month, “The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk” opens at the Brooklyn Museum. The show consists of about 140 ensembles, including a beaded dress in Gaultier’s beloved leopard pattern. The designer uses spots a lot—but usually just on clothes. For this fall’s haute couture collection, however, he had his longtime hairstylist, Odile Gilbert, create a series of truly fierce coifs that awed both the crowd and the models. “None of the girls wanted to wash them off,” said Gilbert of the jungle-cat markings, which she executed with stencils and colored powder. “And backstage, Catherine Deneuve approached me and said, ‘I would love to have these done some day.’ Of course I told her, ‘Whenever you want.’ ” Perhaps the Brooklyn Museum could squeeze in one more look…
