One Slick Pony

Hair product is back—and very visible in the season's slick looks.

From Alexander Wang’s heavy-hanging locks to the gravity-defying beehives at Adam Selman, nearly every
look on the fall 2015 runways
had one thing in common:
“Hair that very obviously has a lot of product in it is a big
trend,” says the Bumble and bumble stylist Jimmy Paul.
Here, he applied gel, combed
the hair into a low ponytail, which he braided and
twisted, and then doused the whole thing with Bumble
and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil. But, really, a few drops will do the trick. “You don’t need that much,” he says.

New Wave
Another significant fall trend put hair at the forefront—literally. It draped across foreheads at Jil Sander and Vera Wang, and flirted playfully in the form of supershort boyish fringe at Rag & Bone. Even ponies and topknots
had a forward bent, at Prada and Marc Jacobs, respectively. “An artistically placed piece
of hair always completes a look,” says Paul, who created the finger-waved style here. After scrunching damp tresses with mousse, he singled out one section, nudging it into shape with Bumble and bumble Bb Gel, then securing it with a strategically positioned bobby pin. “It’s as much of a statement as, say, bangs or fringe, but without the commitment. When I assisted [the legendary hairstylist] Danilo, he called
it a ‘honey bang,’ ”
