Even Swarthy Polo Players Have Their Grooming Tricks

Nacho Figueras' advice? Let your wife cut your hair, and keep things simple in the morning.

The annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic returns to Liberty State Park next week, where the Black Watch team and its star, Argentine polo player Nacho Figueras, will take center stage. When he isn’t riding horses and playing matches, Figueras, 39, lends his strapping good looks to Ralph Lauren as the face of the World of Polo fragrances, a scent he’s had his eye on since he was just a young wannabe athlete. His one piece of advice for those looking up to him now? Keep it simple.

What is your first grooming memory?
I remember first time shaving with my father’s cream.

What was your first cologne experience?
A Polo classic green bottle at around 8 or 9 years old that I used to love because of the polo player on the bottle.

Describe your daily grooming routine. Do you do anything different if you have a polo match that day?
No routine—I wake up, wash my face with cold water, brush my teeth, and I’m ready to go.

Is there a woman’s fragrance that melts you?
My wife’s.

Any women’s products — or beauty rituals — you pity?
Shaving legs.

Are there any women’s products you occasionally ‘borrow’?
Sunscreen if the sun is very strong.

Where do you get your hair cut?
My wife cuts my hair.

Which male celeb do you think has the best hair?
I haven’t paid attention.

If you were given a spa day gift certificate, how would you spend it?
Steam room and massage.

Favorite post-workout snack?
Cereal bar and Mate.
