East Enders
This summer the line between town and “country” life was blurrier than ever. Eager as they are to leave the stifling streets behind, summer Hamptonites still expect Manhattan’s entertaining standards to be upheld. This kind of beach living includes supping on Nobu-catered sushi, as Anne Hearst and Jay McInerney discovered at the Gucci Mid-Summer Night’s Dinner benefiting East Hampton’s Ross School. “Let us eat!” exclaimed a ravenous Nacho Figueras, who played his first polo match of the season earlier in the day.
“This is better than Madison Avenue,” said Donna Karan one week later, surveying the scene at Super Saturday 10 at Nova’s Ark Project in Water Mill. While Rudy and Judi Giuliani made an impromptu campaign stop, Christy Turlington Burns, Mandy Moore and Kelly Ripa braved crowds to snap up cut-rate Carolina Herrera and Marc Jacobs.
Ripa spent the evening recovering at Jessica and Jerry Seinfeld’s East Hampton house, at a dinner celebrating the Baby Buggy Infant Gear Fund and the Ferragamo children’s book Fiera. “I just want to welcome you to the No. 1 celebrity party pad in America,” joked Jerry Seinfeld as he greeted guests, including Alec Baldwin, Sarah Jessica Parker, Narciso Rodriguez and cohost James Ferragamo. Anyone expecting Hollywood nightclub–style action would have been sorely disappointed, although Ellen Barkin and Bryan Lourd did arrive in time to hang out on the porch for dessert.
When it comes to a good party, Elie Tahari has one simple measure of success. “As long as my wife is happy,” said the designer, who two weeks prior had received Coralie Charriol Paul, Helen Schifter and Gilles Mendel at his Sagaponack home for a New Yorkers for Children fete.
