Mazzy Star’s 1993 single “Fade Into You,” an ambient ballad featuring Hope Sandoval’s hazy vocals and David Roback’s guitar drones, was one of the decade’s most achingly romantic songs, propelling the press-shy L.A. duo into the spotlight. And just as swiftly as they rose to fame, they retreated. This month they reemerge with a series of shows, beginning with the Coachella music festival (April 13), and a new album.
