Ocean's Double Act
The singer launches a magazine.
After his sultry, sensitive major-label debut, Channel Orange, in 2012, the R&B singer Frank Ocean found himself recording with “superpower” Beyoncé, winning a Grammy, and, more than anything else, becoming the hot-button frontman for the gay community within the highly straight hip-hop scene. In many ways, he and his music were being used to incite sociopolitical debate—which may be why he proclaimed that he distrusted journalists. It may also explain why the first issue of Ocean’s magazine, Boys Don’t Cry, will drop this summer, right on the heels of his as-yet-untitled follow-up album
