Andrea Linett Knows a Thing or Two About Being Cool

The stylist-slash-blogger even wrote the book on it.

Starting with her editor days at Sassy, where she tracked down a young Chloë SevignyAndrea Linett has essentially made a living out of having good taste. Now, the stylist, blogger, and former founding creative director of Lucky magazine has compiled some of her best tips in a new book called The Cool Factor, out at the end of the month. In the meantime, get a sense of Linett’s taste with her culture diet, here. It’s heavy on the Bob Dylan, with a few helpings of Cameron Diaz and Page Six.

First thing you read in the morning:
Emails. Then I scan the Times, the Post (can’t start the day without Page Six!) and WWD. And I am not above checking the Daily Mail now and again.

Books on your bedside table right now:
The Longevity Book by Cameron Diaz, because Kelly Oxford raved about it; Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll; Bark by Lorrie Moore; and Bream Gives Me Hiccups by Jesse Eisenberg. (I like reading short stories before bed.)

The TV shows keeping you up at night:
Better Call Saul, Girls, Togetherness—I’m devastated that it was cancelled—and Broad City.

Last movie you saw in theaters:
I can’t even remember! My husband and I can never it together to get to the theater (plus for some reason someone really tall always sits in front of me) so we always watch everything at home. The last one was Room.

Batman or Superman:
I’m not so into superheroes, but Batman seems a little edgier to me since his costume is cooler and he has a badass car, so I pick him.

Last thing you saw at the theater:
The Book of Mormon, which I enjoyed, but it was too hyped up for me and I expected way too much. But right before that we saw Matilda and I loved it.

Last piece of art you bought, or ogled:
I bought a painting at Calliope in New York by Mike Perry, the artist who does the credits for Broad City. It’s a sketch with watercolor squiggles all over it and it looks great hanging with all our other eclectic pieces, since we collect street art from The Stand on the corner of Avenue C and 7th St. Our latest score there was a teeny tiny portrait of Bob Dylan.

Last museum exhibition you loved:
The mummies at the British Museum in London. They put them through MRI machines and you could see their tattoos and jewelry. It was pretty amazing.

Release you’re most eagerly anticipating:
My main man Bob Dylan is releasing Fallen Angels on May 20th. Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie should be pretty great (I really miss those two), and I can’t wait for The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and The Affair to start again.

Song you currently have on repeat:
“You and Me,” by Alice Cooper.

Last concert you saw live:
Robert Plant at a small venue in Brooklyn. And then we hung out with him at the Bowery Hotel and I nearly passed out from the excitement of it all.

How you get your news:
Alerts on my phone, NBC News, and online newspapers. And of course Robin Quivers! I’ve been listening to Howard Stern for years; now I get my fix on my Sirius app when I leave the house, walking to appointments.

Favorite accounts to follow:
I am an Instagram addict and will look at anything posted by @alix_of_bohemia, @stonefoxbride, and @hannahmas.

Last thing you check on the internet before bed:
My emails, mostly because I get so much spam I have to delete them before it gets out of control. Every time I turn around there’s another one. It’s like playing a really un-fun video game.
