Artist Kehinde Wiley's royal pop portraiture at the Brooklyn Museum

For over a decade, Kehinde Wiley has anointed young black men and women in
India, Sri Lanka, Israel, Jamaica, and Nigeria—
not to mention street kids in Harlem—by painting them in a bombastic pop style that mimics the Old Masters. “Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic,” a retrospective at the Brooklyn Museum (February 20 through May 24), is a blockbuster tour of Wiley’s new royals.
