An artist who won acclaim by painting not from life but his memory of it,
moved from London to Trinidad in 2002. There, the lush view outside his door became too hard to resist, and life began to seep into his canvas as it passed directly in front of his eyes. On the eve of Doig’s show of new work at Michael Werner gallery, in New York, we take a look back at
