Melt to Earth
Up in the Alps
Parka season is nigh, and fares to Aspen and St. Moritz are already stratospheric. Cheaper transport to powdery elevations, however, can be found in
“Alps – Geographies and People,”
of Italian photographer Olivo Barbieri’s perspective-distorting mountain-scapes at Yancey Richardson Gallery in New York. The surreal pictures are flat to the point of near-abstraction, which almost makes you forget that they were snapped from a helicopter tens of thousands of feet above sea level, at the treacherous peaks of Mont Blanc. Brrr.
“Alps – Geographies and People” runs through November 2 at
Yancey Richardson Gallery
, 525 West 22nd St. in New York.
