Glastonbury Festival

Where most musicfests are mired in product placement, the Glastonbury Festival clings—muddily, drunkenly, wonderfully—to the notion of nothing but song. On the idyllic Worthy Farm, Glasto, as it’s known to the initiated, has attracted music lovers of all kinds since 1970. In 2007 more than 700 acts performed for crowds of over 170,000. The music roster speaks for itself: David Bowie in the Seventies; Elvis Costello in the Eighties; Radiohead in the Nineties. Most recently, Bloc Party and the Klaxons warmed up for, believe it or not, the Who. And because music and fashion make a great team, arbiters of cool regularly traipse the grounds. Kate Moss, Gwyneth Paltrow and Stella McCartney have all been spotted wading through the mud in giant Wellies, a must here. McCartney, a longtime Glasto-goer, designed a special tank top in honor of the fest this year, with proceeds going to one of its sponsors, Oxfam.
