Paris Boom

Last year, as rumors swirled in the City of Light about the Ritz and the Crillon shutting their doors for prolonged renovations, well-heeled fashionistas began wondering where they would lay their weary heads during the collections. But they needn’t fret—there will be no shortage of expensive beds in Paris. Both the Ritz and the Crillon have postponed construction, and this year will see a wave of luxury-hotel openings, from the 109-room Shangri-La in the 16th arrondissement to the classic Royal Monceau, radically reconfigured by Philippe Starck. Meanwhile, there’s a Mandarin Oriental under construction on Rue Saint-Honoré, and the peripatetic nightlife guru André, of Le Baron and Hotel Amour fame, is branching out to the Left Bank with a tiny VIP hotel located a few steps from Café de Flore.
