Hirst puts shark (left) and lamb on the Lever House menu.

Midtown Madness

November 2007

Bankers heading to lunch at Lever House just might lose their appetites. Beginning in November, the building’s lobby will be home to an as-yet-untitled Damien Hirst artwork that incorporates 30 sheep, two sharks, sides of beef, operating tables and gallons of formaldehyde. “We will probably have so many people with so many issues,” says art dealer Tico Mugrabi, who commissioned the project with Lever House owner Aby Rosen. “When we put in that Virgin Mother sculpture”—a Hirst work of a pregnant woman with a visible fetus that the duo placed outside the building in 2005—“we would get letters saying, ‘You guys are the biggest pieces of s---.’”
