Fashion » Bid Farewell
After recovering from the shock of Yves Saint Laurent’s death in June, the fashion world quickly began speculating about the fate of the extensive art holdings that the designer amassed throughout the years with his longtime business partner and confidant, Pierre Bergé. In July Christie’s announced that it will auction off treasures from the collection—which includes masterworks by Goya, Mondrian, Matisse and Léger—in association with Bergé’s auction house, Pierre Bergé & Associates. The sale is expected to take place in Paris in February. Bergé will keep half the proceeds; the other half will go to the Pierre Bergé–Yves Saint Laurent Foundation, the organization that preserves the Saint Laurent archives, stages exhibits of the designer’s work and sponsors other cultural events.
