Designers have been courting high shine on the runways for several seasons now. This spring, though, their love for luster takes a decidedly novel turn—toward an industrial, machinelike gleam. That steel and chrome vibe often gives way to a futuristic feel, as seen at Calvin Klein and Balenciaga. But the look is still plenty sexy, too. Case in point: Alexander McQueen’s coiled metal–print sheath, which hugs the body for serious curve appeal.
