This Week's Model: Sigrid Agren

blog_skinny_banner.jpgblog_sigrid_01.jpgKnown for her striking face and willowy frame, Sigrid Agren, 17, has had a quick rise to the top. After being discovered at an Elite Model contest when she was 14, the French-Swedish teenager from Martinque made her runway debut a little more than a year ago when she closed the Prada resort show. Since then, Agren has managed to not only become a W favorite (see the February “Le Chic” portfolio shot by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott ), but also land top ad campaigns including Spring 2009 Prada and Fall 2009 ck Calvin Klein. In the middle of a hectic couture week schedule, Agren found time to chat.

This season, you did the Chanel, Dior and Valentino couture shows, among others. Is walking couture harder than ready-to-wear? I’m always stressed when I have to wear a long dress, especially with those high heels. I’m like, “Oh my God, I’m going to fall! My feet are going to get caught in the dress!”

Have you ever fallen on a runway?
No, but I know it’s going to happen once. The worst thing that happened so far was when my shoe broke during the finale of the fall Prada show. It was bad.

So then what happened?
I didn’t finish the walk. I had to go back to backstage because I couldn’t walk anymore.

As a model, you’re constantly prodded and poked at fittings. How do you get used to it?
It’s something you just have to get used to. I don’t really mind except when the photographers keep taking pictures of you backstage when you are dressing.

Any summer vacation plans?
I’m going to Sweden with my parents and brother, Quentin, to visit my father’s side of the family. We’re from a really small village so we swim and fish by the lake and look for berries. We also do a lot of biking and hiking in the mountains.

You’re being home-schooled. What are your favorite subjects?
I’ve always liked all the sciences like math, physics and biology. I mean they are very hard, but it’s nice to have something apart from modeling sometimes.

“The Skinny” appears every Tuesday on the Editors’ Blog. Check back next week for the next installment.
