Justine Kurland: Looking west
It was pouring rain the evening of Justine Kurland’s opening last week at Mitchell-Innes & Nash, but the photographer still pulled in a more than decent turnout for her exhibit, “This Train is Bound for Glory,” a stunning series based on the subculture and mythology of the hobo. (Think: trains, train-hoppers and not-quite-real, not-quite-fictional depictions of the American West.) Among those in attendance were Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore, Rebecca Schiffman and Chris Martin (the visual artist, not the Coldplay singer).
