MAR 12: Yohji Yamamoto

March 2011

This month the work of Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto will be all over London. From March 12 to July 10, the Victoria and Albert Museum will display Yohji-clad mannequins scattered throughout its nooks and crannies. Meanwhile, across town, the Wapping Project Bankside will present “Yohji’s Women” (March 12 to May 14), a photo exhibit highlighting the designer’s aesthetic relationship with the fairer sex. Finally, the Wapping Project will install a single Yohji piece—a 1998 oversize white silk wedding dress with a bamboo crinoline—in a former hydraulic power station. Closer inspection of the work will be possible from a small wooden skiff rowed by a boatman across an artificial lake to the center of the exhibit space.
