Artificial Intelligence: Jantje Fleischhut's Plastic Jewelry
Now in its 7th year, Design Miami has become an international mecca for made-you-look furniture and objets d’art, but a line of whimsical yet bold necklaces by Dutch designer Jantje Fleischhut still manages to catch the eye. Called “Precious Plastic,” the collection features interlocking links of rubber and resin inspired by the jewelry designer’s first bauble as a child, a simple ornament threaded on a string. Combining sentimental ties to plastic with the playfulness of a chain-link necklace, the 39-year-old creates her own rich pigments like mint, coral, and electric pink, then hand-casts the materials in an Amsterdam studio. When in Miami we’re partial to the day-glo combinations, the perfect garland to slip around the neck—or under the Christmas tree. Available for purchase at the Ornamentum Gallery booth at Design Miami through Sunday, or at ornamentumgallery.com; $675.
