When you consider their lineage, it seems only natural that Los Angeles natives Nathalie and Laura Love would grow up to become fashion plates (mom Lisa Love is the West Coast editor of Teen Vogue—and, more famously, Lauren Conrad’s imposingly chic boss on The Hills). But while the sisters have lately garnered their share of attention at events like L.A.’s Art of Elysium gala, the journey toward It girldom has generally been low-key and on their own terms. Laura, 19, a dancer and model who recently walked in Zac Posen’s spring 2012 show and was shot for a Ralph Lauren ad campaign, considered herself a “pure bun-head ballerina” before embracing the fashion world earlier this year. Whereas Nathalie, 25—a budding actress who had a part in this year’s Ceremony—dismisses the role of family in determining her dress: “My mother’s elegant style has not necessarily rubbed off on me,” she says.
That’s not to say that the Loves don’t have the spontaneously fashionable look down pat. Both stick to a casual daytime uniform of jeans and tops—Earnest Sewns and American Apparel tees for Nathalie; J Brands and Rag & Bone and Steven Alan button-downs for Laura—but they can easily slip into something more formal for an event. Laura recently nabbed a “pink Barbie dress” from Juan Carlos Obando—an eye-catcher not unlike the color-block looks shown here.
The sisters are currently on opposite coasts: Laura is in Manhattan’s East Village, where she’s nursing a ballet injury and going on casting calls; Nathalie just found a place in L.A.’s Echo Park and is studying acting and writing while shooting short films with friends. Their closets, however, remain united. “We do share clothes when we’re in the same city,” says Laura—“unwillingly.”
