For over 25 years, Sandro has been a go-to brand for the kind of easy, cool separates that make French starlets and their fellow countrywomen look so enviably effortless. But until recently, only editors and those with Parisian pied-a-terres could snap up their printed shift dresses and colorful silk blouses to bring back to America.
No more. Sandro has recently opened its first US outpost in—where else?—New York’s West Village. (They’ve also launched stateside e-commerce.) Comprising two conjoined boutiques, one for men and one for women, the steel, copper, and blonde wood spaces provide a perfect foil for Sandro’s gamine-meets-tomboy garments, like plaid blazers with leather lapels, colorblock silk blouses, and leather bombers. Accessories like leopard print envelope clutches and East Village-ready leather studded sneakers round out the offerings.
“The Sandro woman is active, modern and feminine,” explains the brand’s co-founder Evelyne Chetrite. “She is dressing for her own pleasure.”
