L.A.’s burgeoning downtown district—which is already home to the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), François Ghebaly Gallery, and Laura Owens’s project space, 356 S. Mission Road—will get a substantial boost when the billionaire philanthropist Eli Broad and his wife, Edythe, open their museum of contemporary art next year. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the three-story building with a distinctive honeycombed shroud will showcase pieces
from the 2,000-strong Broad Art Foundation collection—and offer free admission to boot.
