Dior: Now and Then

A new exhibition at Musée Christian Dior gives the New Look a second glance.

Though Christian Dior’s Bar suit debuted in February 1947, the ecru peplum jacket and black pleated skirt—you know the one—is still as iconic as ever. In a new exhibition at the Musée Christian Dior, housed in Dior’s childhood home in Granville, Normandy, curator Florence Müller looks back on the designer’s first haute couture collection, and its impact on the house’s contemporary designs—from Victoire de Castellane’s jewelry to Raf Simons’s pleated skirts. Not in Normandy? No fear: the accompanying book by author Laurence Benaïm (prefaced by Muller) explores the fashion revolution in print, and will be available in the US in September.

“Dior, the New Look Revolution,” runs from June 6 to November 1, 2015 at the Musée Christian Dior in Granville.
