Mademoiselle Privé: Inside the World of Gabrielle Chanel
Just when you think you know
, Karl Lagerfeld does something like the new “Mademoiselle Privé” exhibition and turns one’s predispositions of the house completely upside down. Proving that the iconic French house need not stick to a certain style—or even exhibit in France—the new show presents the house’s legendary Haute Couture collections, re-editions of the 1932 “Bijoux de Diamants” jewelry, and a series of portraits of Chanel muses like
, Vanessa Paradis, Kristen Stewart, and
all taken by Lagerfeld in Gabrielle Chanel’s Paris apartment. Held at London’s Saatchi gallery, the show begins in a contemporary English garden meant to symbolize Chanel’s life and takes visitors on a journey through the house’s creativity and craftsmanship. Exiting through the gift shop is a must for this show.
Mademoiselle Privé is on view now through November 1
, Duke of York’s HQ, King’s Road, London.
