Public School Model Trè Samuels Doesn't Exercise

Find out the 16-year-old's curly-hair routine, favorite designers, and hidden talent here.

When Public School designers Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow approached 16-year-old model Trè Samuels before the fall 2016 show started, he thought he was being cut. Instead, they asked him to open the show. While this moment may be the highlight of Trè’s New York Fashion Week, it was certainly not his first time opening—he just got back from the European men’s shows, where he walked for Dior, Fendi, Dries Van Noten, and Valentino.

Trè made his debut at Prada’s Resort 2016 show last June and it’s been a whirlwind ever since. His dad, who tries to accompany him whenever he can, attests to this. “It’s a lot of walking,” he said, wiping his brow. It was a very dramatic day: after the Public School show, Trè found out his Instagram had been hacked. While his dad plotted how to storm the Facebook headquarters that afternoon, Trè opened up about his now-signature curly hair and his favorite designers–and then sang a Chris Brown tune.

Age: 16

Hometown: Melbourne, Australia

Hair icons: Michael Jackson, James Brown, and Maxwell.

Hair routine: Normally I just shower and don’t really pay attention to the brand, but I used this product Miss Jessie’s for a shoot and it made my hair sit in the most perfect way, so if I have to say a product, it would be Miss Jessie’s.

Exercise routine: I don’t.

Clean-shaven or scruffy: In the future I want to be scruffy, but I can’t really get it to that point yet.

Best advice from dad: Focus on whatever you love doing and stay humble.

Sweatpants or skinny jeans: Sweatpants.

Favorite brands: Acne, Kitsuné, Vetements, and Raf Simons.

Favorite subject in school: Philosophy, because it plays with your mind so much.

How many times a day you post on Instagram: One or two times a day. Too many drowns people’s feeds, and then they unfollow you.

Last DM: A lot of people hit me up about my hair. They’re like, “How do you get your hair so curly? How do you get it to sit this way?” And I’m like, I don’t know! I just shower in the morning and that’s pretty much it.

Lusting after: A Jeep Wrangler, all black.

Last thing you bought: A jacket from a store in Australia called Somewhere.

Last movie that made you cry: Interstellar

Hidden talent: I don’t know if it’s hidden, but I sing!
