A Most Hatedman

Untitled by Alex Rose

If you were to judge the artist Alex Rose’s age by his tormented, brilliantly visceral collages, you might have imagined that he died a young romantic, like Keats or Rimbaud. Instead, the 44-year old recluse lives and works in Cork, Ireland. Go see his current solo exhibition at envoy enterprises in New York—you won’t find the artist present, but you’ll see the diary of his inner melancholy on the walls.

“Alex Rose—A Most Hatedman” is on view through May 11, 2014, at New York’s Envoy Enterprises, 87 Rivington St.
