Devon Halfnight Leflufy Tapped Into Virtual Reality for Spring 2017
For a season populated by models who'd probably rather be playing Pokémon Go, New York Fashion Week: Men's got a fitting end on Thursday with Devon Halfnight Leflufy's spring 2017 presentation, where models and showgoers alike donned pairs of less-than-fashionable goggles and tapped into virtual reality, thanks to the week's Samsung sponsorship. "It's sort of like a moving mood board that you can explore," the Antwerp-based designer said of the scenes inside – the presentation space transported onto grass, for example, or else under a deluge of two-toned pills. It was part of Leflufy's continued, Jacques Derrida-inspired effort to reduce with his designs: Though, like usual, he sourced from his massive internet-sourced image archive for the collection, he stuck to using just eight graphics this season, like airbrushed faces on cowboy boots and an omnipresent dragon motif. As for the phrase "Selected Feelings," seen on sheer blouses, belts, and even the VR goggles? An homage to another semi-infamous figure, the New-York based poet, author, and alt-lit pioneer, Tao Lin, whose tweets-as-poems Leflufy referred to as "the most contemporary prose that I've seen in recent years." Indeed: Lin's most recent tweet is simply the word "cilantro."
