In Honor of Her New Album, Nelly Furtado’s Best Looks From the Early 2000s
The Canadian singer/songwriter Nelly Furtado had her heyday in the early 2000s with the release of her debut album, Whoa, Nelly! You might remember hit singles such as, “I’m like a Bird,” which won her the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2002, as well as “Turn off the Light,” and “On the Radio.” If you were a child of the ’90s, it was probably one of your first (and favorite) albums. Seventeen years later, Furtado’s career is far from being a thing of the past. On March 31, she dropped her sixth studio album, The Ride, which demonstrates her ability to combine countless styles, from grungy folk to pop; hip hop bangers to Latin R&B. In 2006 she was collaborating with Timbaland, wearing all the trends including hoop earrings halter tops, pool slides, and cargo pants on the red carpet. And today, she’s a mother with a short bob and a little less “promiscuity,” but still has the same tough-around-the-edges bohemian style. Here, a look back at her defining early 2000s style, which is up there with icons of the day like Mariah Carey and Paris Hilton.
