Met Gala 2016: Wiz Khalifa and Idris Elba Win the Red Carpet

Met Gala 2016: The Best Dressed Men of the Red Carpet

Though it’s the ladies who traditionally get the most red carpet attention, the men brought their A-game (and their Givenchy game, and their Dior game) to Monday night’s 2016 Met Gala. Wiz Khalifa, in an ivory Rag & Bone suit, was the clear winner of the night; others attempted to stay close to the theme, like Jaden Smith (with Willow at his side, of course) in a futuristic, Star Trek-worthy Louis Vuitton ensemble. Jared Leto brought a cane, and Alessandro Michele. And then there was Kanye West, who showed up alongside wife Kim Kardashian in something like a couture Canadian tuxedo: a Balmain denim jacket (according to Instagram, West’s own jacket, embellished by Olivier Rousteing for the event) and jeans. It has passed relatively un-dissected and un-analyzed that West wore head-to-toe denim to the Met Gala — his attention-grabbing blue contact lenses saw to that. Rami Malek, Tom Ford, and Idris Elba (in Tom Ford) went classic, while Nick Jonas went full-on high street in Topman, joining the cadre of celebrities like Ciara and Kate Upton opting for custom H&M and Topshop in lieu of couture creations. Maybe embracing mass production is the most honest interpretation of the “Fashion in an Age of Technology” theme, after all.
