Prabal Gurung Was Fashion's Valentine
Few designers acknowledged Valentine's Day when it coincided with New York Fashion Week on Sunday, but at his show Prabal Gurung put it front and center: "This is is my ode and my love to everyone who has been supportive," he said backstage. "What we do is a celebration of love, so that's why I wanted to make sure that everyone felt it." The finale in particular drove that point home: Models made their final round in slinky, scarlet dresses to lyrics like "I want to fall in love," courtesy of a dreamy cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game." Inspiration came from a romantic poet, too: Lord Byron's poem "She Walks in Beauty" and an Henri Rousseau painting gave Gurung the idea of a "curious, slightly undone" woman exploring a forest – hence the feathers and fur.
