Rick Owens Brought a Bit of Levity to His Paris Fashion Week Spring 2017 Menswear Show
In Paris, Rick Owens's models traipsed down the runway swaddled in knots and folds of fabric to the tune of Neil Young's "After the Gold Rush." The designer's Spring 2017 men's wear collection, which adopted the walrus as its mascot, plays with proportions: wide-legged trousers combined with skin-tight mock-necks, or drapes of jersey belting tops and tunics. Just at the moment a look threatens to overwhelm a model's frame, the designer pulls back; his trademark leather jackets ground the billows of fabric, while a bit of sparkle on the sleeves of a top adds some levity to the collection.
