Backstage at Rodarte Fall 2016
It's no surprise that Kate and Laura Mulleavy's fashion show felt entirely cinematic: actresses Kirsten Dunst and Tessa Thompson sat front row, and the designers cited the cafe in San Francisco where Francis Ford Coppola wrote "The Godfather" as the inspiration for their Fall 2016 collection. The set, designed by Bureau Betak, added to the overall effect by including neon lights, red roses, and a hint of fog machine--which inspired several photographers at the end of the runway (and editors in the front row) to shout "Fire! Fire!" before a producer assured that it was intentional. And then the mood went calm, as angelic models clad in a romantic mixture of leather and lace with flowers in their hair slowly began walking, occasionally stopping and standing still, as if waiting for a friend to meet them. Backstage, as well, was an equal combination of serene and hectic. Photographer Olivia Locher captured the scene.
