Scenes of Madness from High Above Times Square at Spring/Break Art Fair
Vanity Fair decamped from its premises at 4 Times Square in Midtown Manhattan in 2016, leaving its office space largely abandoned until this week, when it became the headquarters for Armory Week’s anti-Armory little sibling: the Spring/Break art fair. That means that through the weekend, the 22nd floor—plus the 23rd floor, the unfinished concrete floors of which once belonged to a law office—is once again occupied, but this time around with everything from a fully functioning barber shop to a tech-free isolation chamber to a workshop of sorts where six women saw squeakily away at stubbornly solid blocks of foam. There are kitchens made entirely of cardboard and papier-mâché, and offices that have been painted entirely black, turned into caves made of honeycomb, and given a hot pink makeover with shaggy neon rugs. If that wasn’t enough, it’s all against the backdrop of bustling Times Square, too—an ever-flashing array of screens that keep the show’s theme this year, “Black Mirror,” ever on the mind. See the best scenes from inside the madness, here.
