Tony Awards 2016: Cate Blanchett, Saoirse Ronan, and More Best Dressed of the Red Carpet
It has taken longer than their awards show kin — the Oscars, the Golden Globes, the Grammys — but the Tony Awards have become a fashion display, in addition to a celebration of stage performance, in their own right in recent years. In addition to Broadway stars like Laura Benanti (a consistent favorite on the red carpet) and Renée Elise Goldsberry, the Tonys red carpet has lately played host to models and actors better known for their off-Broadway work and their style chops, like Lupita Nyong'o (recently returned to her theater roots), Liya Kebede, and Cate Blanchett. Leona Lewis's stylist Rebecca Grice, known for the low-key, retro-influenced aesthetic of her clients like Lorde and Haim, referred to the Tonys as "a sparkle explosion," but these ladies prove there's more to the awards show than glitter alone. (Though, of course, we found a share of shiny paillettes, iridescent silk, and typical Zuhair Murad glam — it wouldn't be a Broadway spectacle without a little excess.) Here, we round up the top 10 best looks from the 70th annual Tony Awards, which includes looks by designers such as Stella McCartney, Louis Vuitton, Oscar De La Renta, and more, and ranges from minimalist Saoirse Ronan to maximalist Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
