Hugs and Kisses

"We just made out in the bathroom," said Rachel Griffiths.

Valentino, a hermit? “For 45 years, everyone thinks I love parties and to go out. It’s all wrong. I love to stay home,” admitted the designer at a party at Cipriani in New York to celebrate the publication of Valentino Garavani: Una Grande Storia Italiana, a coffee-table book about his career. It’s hard to believe that Valentino could really be a homebody, as he’s been the guest of honor at a dozen or more glittering affairs since his retirement last year.

A few days after the Cipriani affair (attended by Anne Hathaway, Lisa Airan and Jennifer Creel), Diane von Furstenberg threw him a dinner as well, inviting Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson, Charlie Rose, Lynn Wyatt and Lee Radziwill to her studio. Barry Diller even wore a tie, though Valentino did not. “The only reason I wore one,” said Diller, “is because I’ve never seen Valentino without one.”

In Los Angeles, Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci was the designer of the hour when LVMH’s Katherine Ross and her husband, Michael Govan, director of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, hosted a small dinner attended by Christina Ricci and Riley Keough. “We’re both Italian,” said Ricci of her connection to the designer. “Although the only thing I know how to say is ‘Shut up and kiss me.’”

Boucheron held a party earlier in the week for the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, at the home of gallerist Karyn Lovegrove and music manager Peter Leak. Songwriter Jesca Hoop performed for Cameron Silver, Laura Wasser and Balthazar and Rosetta Getty, while Rachel Griffiths and husband Andrew Taylor were otherwise engaged. Said Griffiths, “We just made out in the bathroom.”
