He’ll always have Paris, so why not London too? Karl Lagerfeld unleashed a blast of Gallic chic for the Chanel extravaganza he staged in the British capital. Things kicked off with a dinner at Nobu, to which Chanel-logoed black cabs ferried Kylie Minogue, Rinko Kikuchi, Kate Moss, Charlotte Casiraghi and Daphne Guinness. “Where does he find the time? He should do workshops on time management,” marveled Thandie Newton. The next evening Sean Lennon and Irina Lazareanu performed live, as models showed off Lagerfeld’s designs at a runway show. The slew of back-to-back after-parties kept Lily Allen and Emma Watson busy. A week later in New York, skin—and little else—was most definitely in at Marc Jacobs’s annual holiday party. The Arabian Nights costume blowout, held at the Rainbow Room, saw an endless stream of snake charmers, Jeannies (as in I Dream of) and sheikhs, many stripped within an inch of their lives. “All the guys are happy because they don’t have to wear any clothes,” said Robert Duffy of the evening’s theme. In the ballroom buffed and bronzed go-go dancers entertained the gyrating Aladdins and belly dancers who flooded the rotating dance floor. One man with a stuffed camel attached to his hip received some dubious praise for his costume. “You look like you’re f---ing a camel,” his friend said. Halfway through the evening, the crowd parted for a performance by a whirling dervish that ended in a downpour of confetti. An immobile Jacobs surveyed the scene from inside his giant fuzzy camel-toe costume, big enough to house his entire staff. “It’s just me in here,” he said with a smirk. “But I am hoping it will get busier as the night goes on.”
