Guests pondered the best route from Gstaad to Saint Moritz: “Chauffeur or helicopter?” Armani’ss dinner party; New York’ss gala gauntlet.

A dinner party at Marjorie Gubelmann’s home is rarely a casual affair. But the gathering she hosted for Roberta Armani and photographer Roger Moenks’ new book, Inheriting Beauty, was even more glittering than usual. For one thing, guests were overheard discussing the best mode of transport between Gstaad and Saint Moritz. “Chauffeur or helicopter?” wondered one. For another, the hostess was decked out in a 71-carat diamond drop necklace from Leviev. “I’m going cross-eyed,” Gubelmann admitted.

If there’s one thing Gubelmann does well, it’s make her guests feel at ease. Eva Lorenzotti, Alessandro Nivola and Alex Kramer were able to smoke right in the living room (no banishment to terraces in this apartment), while Gigi Mortimer clued in London transplant Poppy Delevingne to a rather crude acronym to navigate her new city: “Fat men pee loudly: Fifth, Madison, Park, Lexington,” she explained. And as guests departed, they were given a giant tub of Giorgio Armani Crema Nera cream (retail: $225).

A few weeks later, there was barely enough time between museum galas to change dresses. The winter bash at the American Museum of Natural History (sponsored by Roberto Cavalli) drew Anne Hathaway and Mary-Kate Olsen. Marina Rust hit the Frick’s masked ball. And every social worth her stilettos—including Renee Rockefeller, Becca Cason Thrash, Muffie Potter Aston and Jennifer Creel—made it to the Museum of the City of New York’s Winter Ball, sponsored by Dior. It was native New Yorker Eva Amurri’s first time attending the annual gala. But as the daughter of Susan Sarandon, she is no fashion neophyte. “I wore my first Dior when I was 16 for the Vanity Fair Oscar party,” she recalled. “It was actually sent for my mom, and I said, ‘I’ll take that!’”
